By Natalie GisvoldWord Cloud for PTSD

Prince Harry speaks out about the stigma of Mental Health, specifically relating to war veterans. Research suggests that 10-18% of troops serving in Afghanistan and Iraq are likely to have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) upon their return. Estimates of depression in returning troops ranges from 3-25% and of the Veterans using VA services, 48% have been diagnosed with a mental health problem.

Prince Harry said, “Mental Health problems don’t need to be a ticking time bomb.” He talks about the need to keep mental health at the forefront of our problems; it just simply needs to be talked about.

I founded the Network as the Executive Director in 2011 and, before that, I was a program director at Mental Health Colorado. My educational background is in Developmental Psychology, but living with bipolar disorder has drawn me to this work. I'm most passionate about protecting the civil rights and dignity of others. In my free time, I love reading, practicing yoga, and spending time with my family here and in Illinois.
